Teaching the simple present through leisure activities
Objective:By the end of the lesson,pupils will be able to ask and answer about their leisure activities using the simple present .
The lead in: The teacher starts the lesson by showing different pictures.They represent characters that pupils have already dealt with.These pictures represent leisure time activities of my characters Omar and Margaret .
Do we travel everyday?,Do we read stories all the time?;Do we practise sport everyday?
The pupils answer ,“No”.
So when do we do this kind of activities?…………….pupils answer”when we have free time”
These activities are called leisure time activities.
Task1:The teacher sticks a house on the board .’Masha’s leisure time activities house‘ . The pictures represent the steps.
The teacher starts building the house piece after an other.
You can ask your learners for help,they love that.
I used different shapes and colours to make it attractive for learners.
Stick the other shapes on the board as well.
The pupils look at the pictures .They read the written time . Then they pass to the board to put the shapes in the right places.
In this task ,pupils learn how to match pictures with activities . At the same time they match time in letters with that in numbers.
Pupils carry on passing to the board till they finish building the house.
After that,they gather the information to write coherent sentences .They use the simple present with the personal pronoun SHE.They revise the use of the preposition’on’.
Example;On Thursday,Masha plays with the bear at ten past ten.
As a final step,pupils ask and answer to practice WH questions and YES/NO questions.
Example:At what time does Masha cook dinner?
Masha cooks dinner at 7.15 p.m.
When does Masha draw?
Masha draws on Tuesday.
Does Masha watch T.V on Friday?
Yes;she watches T.V on Friday.
How to design the house.
1.You need colored papers,a pair of scissors and markers.
2.Cut the shapes and stick the pictures .
Write the information.You can use different pictures and characters.
