Board ,word games are one of the most amusing games for ESL learners . They are useful for practicing different grammatical rules.
If we talk about 2 MS program ,we find that during sequence one ,pupils are supposed to describe relatives’ physical appearance ‘They have to name body parts and to describe them as well” therefore ,I have designed this board game for tutorial sessions . Our pupils are going to use the game to have a good time while revising or practicing the information taught earlier.
By the end of the session , pupils will practice describing relatives’ and personal physical appearance .
Board game, dice, money , soft ball
Grammar: To be / to have in the simple present .
Vocabulary: related to body parts , adjectives of description , family members.
Core values: Pupils will appreciate God’s blessings ( different body parts that others do not have).
Communicative competencies: Pupils will feel autonomous while working together, they will overcome fear .
Intellectual competencies: Pupils will analyse each question or request in the game to get out with a suitable answer.
Methodological competencies : Pupils work in groups ,they will correct each other while discussing discuss (peer correction).
The teacher starts the lesson using a song about body parts(Head , shoulders knees and toes) . Pupils sing and act with the song
Songs are very motivating and amusing warmers to start our lessons with.
1.The teacher splits learners into groups of mixed abilities. Each group can choose a name from the song . The number of pupils can be four to five no more.
Example: The heads group , The Toes group , The eyes group…….etc
2. The teacher provides each group with a board game , a die and money.
3.He has to explain the task for the learners ,then gives them some space to practice together with no pressure. Of course, the teacher’s role is not neglected , he has to move around , checks and helps from time to time.
How to check; Personally ; whenever I want to check whether my learners are working or just playing , I choose some of them and I ask them questions about the topic.
4. The pupils roll the die , they use their pieces to walk through the board. Each time they get a question or a request , they read it out loud ,of course , within the group . Then they have to think for a suitable answer . If they get a correct answer ,they win a piece of money.
For the money , you can use the same amount or different numbers which means may be a lucky pupil gets 20 Euro answering just one question. It might be motivating for slow learners i.e they can get the chance to win the game.
The one who passes the final line with the highest number of money is the winner.
5. To encourage communication , pupils take a soft ball and start asking other members from other groups the same questions for further practice.
You can choose any small toys that you have at home as players
Your feedback and encouragement are highly appreciated
